“The 1st International Iğdır Traditional Turkish Arts Workshop” has started

The opening of the 1st International Iğdır Traditional Turkish Arts Workshop was held at the Medico Social Building of the Iğdır University Martyr Bülent Yurtseven Campus. The opening ceremony held at the September 8 Martyrs Conference Hall was attended by Iğdır University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma, SERKA Secretary General Oktay Güven, SERKA Iğdır Investment Support Office Coordinator Ramazan Mutlu Doğaner, guest academics and artists, University academics and students.

The opening ceremony began with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, and the welcome speech was given by Elif Kırkkeseli, an academic at Iğdır University Technical Sciences Vocational School, who organized the workshop. Kırkkeseli emphasized the importance of handicrafts by stating that handicrafts reflect the lifestyle of a society and document its cultural identity. Underlining that the cultural diversity in Turkey is also reflected in handicrafts, Kırkkeseli thanked the Iğdır Governorship, SERKA, Iğdır University President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma, and the workshop participants for their support in organizing the workshop, and concluded her speech.

“Handicrafts will be examined and new ideas will be developed to enable handicraft products to reach world markets.”

Speaking after Lecturer Elif Kırkkeseli, Iğdır University Technical Sciences Vocational School Director Mustafa Öcal stated that Iğdır University supports development projects in its region in addition to being a “temple of science”. Öcal emphasized that the Traditional Turkish Arts Workshop is one of these development projects and stated that traditional handicrafts will be examined during the Workshop and new ideas will be developed for handicraft products to reach world markets. Technical Sciences Vocational School Director Mustafa Öcal also thanked Iğdır University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Hakkı Alma for his support for the Workshop and other development projects.
